MaryEllen Castaneda Obituary (1948 - 2024)

MaryEllen "Mona" Palomino Castaneda, born on November 15, 1948, a lifelong resident of Brawley, California. Has passed away peacefully in her family home on January 18, 2024, at the age of 75. A graduate of Brawley Union High School, Mona dedicated her life to her parents and sisters. In her active years, she provided child care services to her friends and sold Avon products. Mona, a devout Catholic, she was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she volunteered many hours. Mona and her sisters would cook for the students and staff of Sacred Heart School, and she donated her desserts to the Sacred Heart BBQ. At home, she was always ready to share a home-cooked meal with family and friends. She was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews. Mona enjoyed purses, jewelry, clothes, Diet Pepsi and a good action movie. Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Gilberto and Elpidia Castaneda; her siblings, Eddie, Emma, Maria Dolores , Marina, Edmundo, Raymundo, and Ruben Castaneda. She is survived by her brothers, Gilbert Castaneda of Tucson and Mario Castaneda of Brawley. Visitation will be on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 6pm-9pm at Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley. Rosary at 7pm. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 8:30 am followed with burial at Riverview Cemetery.
