Myrtle Maxine Worbes Obituary (1938 - 2023)

Myrtle Maxine Worbes of Hope, Arkansas went to be with our Lord on February 18, 2023. Maxine was born on January 19th, 1938 in the small town of Guernsey, Arkansas. After the death of her youngest brother Jimmy, the family moved to California where Maxine finished her last two years of school at Central Union High School. On November 12, 1960, Maxine married the love of her life, Ivan Dale Worbes, in Heber, CA. They then moved to El Centro where they raised two daughters, Kimberly and Michelle. Maxine worked for a short time at Bakers Burgers and then went on to work at Wonder Bread up until her retirement. Maxine and Dale were longtime residents of El Centro and after retiring, they moved to Hope, Arkansas, just 5 miles from Guernsey. In Hope, she was able to be close to her brother and many cousins and reconnect with childhood friends. Maxine attended Southside Baptist Church every Sunday and always dressed to the "T". On Sunday afternoons you could find her out shopping, especially at her favorite store Martins. "Clearance" she would insist, and never let ya forget it! Maxine lived her life doing what she loved: walking (exercising), cooking, and working in her yard. Her all time favorite place to be was outside in her yard and flower garden. Neighbors often said that Maxine and Dale inspired them to work in their yards and made the neighborhood better! She loved to walk, and fast! Sometimes 3 or 4 miles at a time, good luck keeping up! She joined an exercise class at First Baptist Church where she made lifelong friendships with the sweetest group of ladies. Maxine would often tease the ladies by trying to tickle them or make funny faces to mess them up. There was more laughter than exercise with her around! Maxine also loved to cook and bake sweets. Her No-bake Marshmallow Bars, Banana Pudding, and Banana Nut Bread were some of our personal favorites! Maxine loved life. She was a strong, determined woman who didn't let any obstacles stand in her way. She never stopped doing what she loved. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Dale, infant daughter Cheryl Yvonne, brothers Jimmy and William "Wiggie" Powell, and sister Catherine Ward. She is survived by daughters, Kimberly (Matthew) Hester and Michelle (Jerry) Ruiz, 6 Grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren. Graveside services will be at Evergreen Cemetery, El Centro on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 10 am.
