Nicolasa E. Magana, known fondly as Nica to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023, in San Diego, California. Born on September 9, 1936, in Stockton, California, Nicolasa's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit of generosity and wisdom that touched many. Nicolasa is preceded in death by her parents Pedro E. Magana and Antonia E. Magana, her siblings; Adelaida, Pedro, Mary, Carmen, Esther and Cresencio. In her early years Nicolasa's family moved to the Imperial Valley where she attended school in Calipatria. Her education laid the foundation for a life characterized by a strong work ethic. Nicolasa's dedication to service was evident in her notable career as an Armed Guard, a role in which she protected. Her interests were as varied as they were rich. Nicolasa was an avid reader of the newspaper and could often be found engaging with the latest news stories, her keen mind always seeking to understand the world around her. Music and singing were also passions of hers, providing a soundtrack to many cherished moments. Nicolasa's voice, whether lifted in song or conversation, was a source of joy and comfort to those around her. Family was the cornerstone of Nicolasa's life. She was a matriarch in the truest sense, her generous nature and spirited heart being the glue that held her large and loving family together. Nicolasa is survived by her siblings Teresa, Aurelia, Hipolito and her children, Ruben (Pamela), Richard (Victoria), Jane (Alfred), Ralph (Belle), Raymond (Josie), Isabel and Christopher (Alicia) Hurtado. Her legacy also includes 27 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Nicolasa's presence was a gift at family gatherings, where she enjoyed being surrounded by her loved ones. Her wisdom, often shared through stories and advice, will be carried forward by the generations that follow. The words that best describe Nicolasa are indeed wise, generous, and spirited, and these qualities were reflected in everything she did. Nicolasa indeed left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, her warmth and wisdom resonating long after her words have faded. Nicolasa E.
