Perfecto Gurule Obituary (1942 - 2023)

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow to inform you of the loss of our Perfecto Gurule who passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on the day of June 15th, 2023. It fills all our hearts knowing that on the day of his passing, Perfecto had an abundance of love surrounding him. Perfecto Gurule was born on March 1st, 1942 in Los Lunas, New Mexico to his beloved parents, Mother Flora Moya and Father George Gurule. From infant to the age of 14 years old Perfecto was raised in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico in a small barrio known as "Varelas". Perfecto was the second to the youngest of 7 siblings. He started to work at a real young age at The Royal Bakery in Albuquerque. At the age of 14, Perfecto moved to Socorro, NM and began to work at La Fiesta Bakery under the loving hand of his brother-in-law Eddie Sanchez. At age 18,Perfecto made the decision to enlist into the United States Navy where he proudly served 24 years of honorable military service plus an additional 6 more years in the Naval Reserve. He retired after 30 years of military service holding the rank of an E-7 Chief Petty Officer. He served on various aircraft carriers, battleships, destroyers, and fleet oiler vessels and was stationed in various parts of the world. Perfecto's military service is one of the things in his life he was most proud of. After his military service, Perfecto developed many types of skills which catapulted him into his working career. He worked many years with a company called Webb where he lived in National City, Ca. After years of working in the San Diego area the company transferred him to the Imperial Valley where he resided in Holtville, Ca. since 1997. He then moved on to another job where he worked in a supervisory role at the Calipatria State Prison where he retired in 2005. Perfecto enjoyed his retired life as he immersed himself and became very devout to organizations such as the Forty and Eight, Commander of the VFW, and Commander of the American Legion Post 138. For 20 whole years Perfecto respectfully put up the American flags all over the City of Holtville for numerous holidays and special events. Other hobbies Perfecto enjoyed doing was handyman jobs around his home, he became a jack of all trades and tackled on many home-improvement projects. Outside of his hobbies, Perfecto's joys in life were spending quality time with all his step-children, grand-children, great grand-children, and even great, great grand-children. He really enjoyed family get-togethers, cook-outs, vacationing, traveling, eating out at restaurants, classic country music, cracking jokes, rooting for the San Diego Padres, and of course a few beers here and there!! We will always remember Perfecto for his kind and generous heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, a very caring person, strong-willed, and always had the right advice to give at the right exact time. He would do anything for his family! Perfecto is preceded in death by his mother Flora Moya, his father George Gurule, his brothers Frutoso, Rudolfo, and Raymond, his sisters Inez, Rosalia, and Lilly, and stepson Gustavo C. Mazon. Perfecto is survived by his loving wife Rosario Castro Gurule, his sister Helena Sanchez (Eddie), his children Charlie Edwards (Julian), Micheal Gurule (Hilda), and Perfecto Gurule Jr, his step-children Christina Mazon, Edward Mazon (Tanda), Charles Mazon (Lisa) and a host of many other grand-children, great grand-children, and great, great grand-children, the Castro Brothers and sister, and friends. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 at St. Josephs Catholic Church located at 560 Maple Ave. Holtville, Ca. 92250. Rosary will commence at 8:00 a.m. and mass will follow at 9:00 a.m. Burial immediately following the mass at Terrace Park Cemetery in Holtville, Ca.
