Brawley, California
Evelyn Jane Corpuz, 78, of Brawley, California, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 6, 1948, in Brawley, California, and spent her childhood in Niland, where she was raised by her parents, Ben and Carrie Aglupos.
Evelyn attended primary school in Niland and graduated from Calipatria High School in 1966. During her school years, she received numerous awards for her exceptional talent in student speaking. On October 5, 1966, she married “Her One and Only,” Richard Fernandez Corpuz. Together they began their family in Niland before moving to Brawley in 1973, where they lovingly raised their four daughters: Lynn, Frances, Susan, and Audrina.
Evelyn was deeply devoted to her husband throughout her life. She had a passion for sports, particularly softball and volleyball, and generously shared her talents by coaching girls’ sports in the community. She was named Athlete of the Week shortly before a life-changing vehicle accident. Though the accident significantly altered her life, Evelyn, with the unwavering support of her beloved husband and children and her strong Catholic faith, demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience, beating the odds and living a full and meaningful life.
Known for her kind heart and spirited personality, Evelyn also had a mischievous grin that let you know she was up to something—or at least thinking about it. She loved to laugh, tease, and offer words of wisdom, often reminding her family with a wink, “Be good and if you can’t be good, don’t get caught.” That playful humor was one of the many ways she connected with those around her and brought joy into everyday moments.
Her love for sports never faded, and she could often be found cheering on Richard and her daughters at their softball games. Evelyn especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, always ready with encouragement, gentle guidance, and her unmistakable grin. She was generous, welcoming, and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A lifelong Catholic, Evelyn’s faith guided her through both joyful and challenging seasons of life. She trusted deeply in God’s plan and found strength in prayer, which sustained her through adversity and shaped the love she poured into her family.
She also enjoyed watching Reba and Dr. Phil, often chatting with the television as though she were part of the conversation.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Corpuz; her parents, Ben and Carrie Aglupos; her parents-in-law, Mariano and Lucia Accuar; her sisters, Marilyn Banaga and Mary Ann Aglupos; brothers-in-law Eddie Hurtado and Hector Banaga, her nephews, Richard Mariano Accuar, Andrew Allen Accuar, Javier Hurtado and Eric Hurtado; her compadre, Nick Chavez; and her godson, Bill E. Keeton.
She is survived by her daughters: Lynn Webster (Scott), Frances Stratton (Gary), Susan Corpuz, and Audrina Balentine (Josh); her grandchildren: Michele Webster, Justin Garcia, Jason Webster (Jessica), Aaron Ortega, Meriah Morales (JJ), Blayze Webster, Daniel Ortega, Josh Ortega, Tsiona Overton (Jacob), Sirah Overton, Layla Balentine, and Zoey Balentine; her brother, Julius Aglupos (Tessie); her sisters, Justina Fischer, Evangeline Hurtado, June Navarro (Jesus), Rose Valenzuela (David), and Wilma Salas (Jimmy); her brothers-in-law, Macario Corpuz (Hortencia) and Ernie Accuar (Leslie); her sisters-in-law, Esther Hightower and Rosie Williams (Logan); numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Diamond.
