Gustavo S Ortega

Gustavo Ortega Sr, 84, of Brawley, California, passed away on August 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Gustavo was born in Ameca, Jalisco, Mexico, on January 6, 1941. He was raised in Calipatria, California, by his loving parents, Jose and Maria Ortega. He graduated from Calipatria High School in 1959. He married the love of his life, Dolores Ruelas, in 1961. Together, they had three children: Rosemary, Matilda, and Gustavo Jr. His devotion and love as a husband and father endured to the very end.

Gustavo was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Ortega; Sister Margaret Ortega; Sister Elena Tapia; Brother Joe Ortega; and Brother Carlos Ortega.

Gustavo is survived by his wife, Dolores Ruelas Ortega; daughter Rosemary Corrales; daughter and son-in-law Matilda and Kenneth Douthit; son and daughter in-law Gustavo Jr and Maia Winstead-Ortega; Grandchildren Felicitas Bertrem, George Rivera, Bianca Ortega, Stephanie Rivera, Aaron Ortega, Jefferey Hackney, Daniel Ortega, Josh Ortega, JR Macias, Marriah Macias; Great-grandchildren Shelby Edmondson, Reily De La Rosa, David Zamudio, Birdie Buenrostro and Briella Ruiz; Sister Sally Thompson, Brother Robert Ortega, Sister Yolanda Ortega, numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends along with his fellow Imperial Irrigation District co-workers
Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing his love will continue to guide us and live on in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary as follows: viewing on Wednesday, September 3, 202,5, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and service on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 9 am. Internment will be immediately following the services on Thursday morning.
